Timeless Counsels
Introduction-Author-Talks
Wisdom comes to us as a gift of the Holy Spirit and is called the Queen of all its gifts. Its proper use allows us to see the value of material things and use them to draw closer to God.
Through the gift of wisdom, we can find value in understanding and acting upon the thoughts and writings of others; in particular the sermons and talks of priests.
Section A, below, presents sermons by the Rev. Joseph Farrell, a priest in the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, Ireland. He completed his religious studies in Carlow and Maynooth where he earned the highest honors. He taught as a professor in Carlow College for three years until 1868 and then took on missionary work in the parishes of Maryborough and Monasterevan. He died in March at the age of 45 in the year 1885.
Section B, follows with similar topics presented by other priests in their own styles during the late 1800s.
Section C, presents seven Lenten sermons, and eleven sermons on the Sacred Heart by Rev. Joseph Fuhlrott during the same time period.
Section D, contains writings by Rev. Roderick MacEachen who introduces the beauty of divine truth in the dogmas of Faith. Rev. MacEachen graduated from St. Mary's College in Emmetsburg, Md. in 1901 and later earned his PhD. He was named Papal Nuncio and represented Pope Benedict XV at the signing of the Treaty of Versailles marking the conclusion of WWI. He taught at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. where he wrote many of his works. Later, he served as Army Chaplin during WWII.
